INTERPOL backing Safer Internet Day to promote online safety

LYON, France – As the risk of users being targeted by cybercriminals increases with growing worldwide access to Internet, INTERPOL is again backing Safer Internet Day as part of its ongoing support to global efforts in protecting communities on and offline.

The dangers posed by different types of cybercrime present a very real threat to all parts of society, especially children and young adults who are often the target of online criminals.

Under the theme ‘Be the change: Unite for a better internet’, Safer Internet Day 2017 is aimed at encouraging greater responsibility across all levels of society and highlighting the positive uses of technology.

INTERPOL provides assistance to its 190 member countries in combating all forms of cyber-enabled crimes, including online child sexual abuse, social engineering fraud and countering the use of social media by terrorist groups.
