Global security dialogue via INTERPOL focus of Beirut meeting with banking association

BEIRUT, Lebanon – Top officials from INTERPOL and the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World have met in Beirut with directors of the Association of Banks in Lebanon (ABL) as part of a collaborative dialogue on ‘Banking: Threats and Remedies’.

Addressing the Association of Banks in Lebanon, INTERPOL Secretary General Noble said that opening an effective dialogue between all sectors will identify where resources and new initiatives are needed to provide solutions for the safety and security of citizens worldwide.

On behalf of the Association of Banks in Lebanon its Chairman Dr François Bassil welcomed President of the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World Elias Murr and INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble.

As INTERPOL and the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World work to identify priorities and activities on which they can collaborate, they will be engaging with public and private sector entities to identify security risks and gaps, and the potential solutions which can be provided by INTERPOL, global law enforcement and its partners under the aegis of the INTERPOL Foundation.

“Achieving a safer world in the 21st century is a shared responsibility that requires a global alliance between governments, civil society and the private sector,” said the President of the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World, Elias Murr.
 
With representatives from Kaspersky Lab also attending, participants at the meeting in Beirut organized by the ABL recognized that the critical issues currently shaping the security landscape require all sectors to engage with the global law enforcement community to develop a collective response to current and emerging threats.

“We often talk about a globalized world, but this does not mean we are always connected. By opening an effective dialogue between all sectors, we can identify where resources and new initiatives are needed and then work together to provide solutions for the safety and security of citizens worldwide,” said INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble.
 
“Today’s meeting is about starting a dialogue, one which sees us working collaboratively and over time to overcome security challenges and gaps by developing practical solutions across sectors,” added the Head of INTERPOL.
 
The INTERPOL Foundation will work with INTERPOL to mobilize support across all sectors against transnational crimes which threaten communities worldwide.
 
INTERPOL’s Executive Committee unanimously endorsed the creation of the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World in October 2013, ahead of INTERPOL’s 82nd General Assembly in Colombia.
