INTERPOL Secretary General to visit tsunami disaster area to meet senior police officials to discuss assistance

LYON, France - Secretary General Ronald K. Noble is traveling to Thailand today to meet with law enforcement and government officials to discuss what further assistance can be provided by INTERPOL following the tsunami disaster.

Mr Noble will also visit the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) teams comprising experts from many of INTERPOL's member countries which are collating DNA and fingerprint information to assist with the identification of victims from around the world. DVI teams co-ordinated by the General Secretariat in Lyon have also been dispatched to the southern and eastern areas of Sri Lanka.

In addition, the Secretary General is convening a meeting of senior police officials from affected countries and those providing DVI support, to be held at the General Secretariat in Lyon on Wednesday 5th January to discuss operational and strategic law enforcement issues arising from this disaster.
