Partnerships
In an effort to enhance biosecurity on a global scale, we collaborate with other agencies, governments and international organizations, such as the World Customs Organization, the World Health Organization, the World Organisation for Animal Health, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs.
We openly engage in international discussions and encourage inter-agency cooperation on strategic and working levels. As such, we participate in and contribute to a variety of formats such as conferences, publications and the collaboratively development of awareness raising and training materials.
INTERPOL Global Biosecurity Conference
In 2024, we hosted the first Global Biosecurity Conference to share knowledge and expertise among members countries and other relevant stakeholders. The conference brought together various sectors including health, customs, science, as well as policy makers and international organizations to discuss biosecurity issues relevant to the law enforcement community.
By raising awareness on biological threats and highlighting best practice and challenges in areas of prevention, preparedness and response to biological incidents, the goal is to define a set of recommendations on the outcomes of the conference to support law enforcement efforts to strengthen global biosecurity.
- Bring together experts from different regions and backgrounds to discuss biosecurity issues relevant to the law enforcement community;
- Foster the dialogue between law enforcement and other sectors such as health, customs, scientists, policy-makers, and relevant regional/international organisations with a view to strengthen biosecurity;
- Discuss current and future biological threats that might trigger the involvement of law enforcement;
- Highlight good practices and challenges in the areas of prevention, preparedness and response to biological incidents, including bioterrorism;
- Define a set of recommendations based on the outcomes of each session that would support the law enforcement community’s efforts to strengthen biosecurity at the global level.
