Watchmaker
A Global Initiative
Watchmaker enables member countries to identify and track known, or suspected individuals involved in the manufacture or use of explosives. Working groups facilitate the exchange of biometric data and document records that are uploaded to a dedicated INTERPOL database.
A Regional Focus
Obtaining information across regions can reveal emerging patterns and trends. This can help us produce detailed, analytical reports that highlight capability gaps, IED trends, component parts and areas of acquisition.
Operations
Coordinated efforts coming out of Watchmaker working group activities have developed into the operationalization of data in order to support the overt and covert detection of bomb-makers as they cross international borders. This threat-based, intelligence-driven approach helps our member countries to take appropriate legal action.
Intelligence-Driven Approach
Through Watchmaker we provide analytical, and training support to our member countries. Analysing data and criminal intelligence allows us to identify and locate new and emerging hotspots, and identify terrorist and non-state actor modus operandi. This informs our capacity building efforts to address evolving chemical and explosive threats.
