Innovation is not an option, or a buzz word, at INTERPOL. It is embedded in the way we work, every day, and integral to our mission to connect and empower global law enforcement.
As the only global organization for law enforcement cooperation, for us, innovation means providing cutting-edge tools and systems, secure access to critical information and world-class support for investigations and operations.
This issue of INTERPOL Spotlight introduces you to our Innovation Centre and the experts who put their knowledge of key technologies at the service of our membership. Artificial intelligence, synthetic media, drones, digital forensics: these are all strategic to the fight against transnational organized crime
It also features Nexus, our new and scalable system for secure police communications, aligned with policing needs in an era of constant change in both technology and criminal activity.
And it showcases the highly innovative work of the Brazilian Federal Police’s Clean Gold Programme. Supported by INTERPOL, this database of gold samples from Brazil and beyond allows forensic scientists to track and identify illegally mined gold - the fastest-growing revenue stream for organized crime groups.
At INTERPOL, we have been innovating for over a hundred years, and we will never stop. We will keep working with our member countries, and with partners whose expertise combines with our own, to make one thing sure: where criminals abuse innovation, we will harness it and use it to outpace and outsmart them.
