Project INSIGHT

INTERPOL’s secure platform for enhanced crime analysis

Data is at the heart of international policing. When the right data is in the right hands, it can give law enforcement a comprehensive global picture of crime trends to help them tackle crimes more effectively. But in our increasing digital society, the ever-growing volume of available data can be overwhelming.

INTERPOL maintains the world’s largest international police databases and a secure communication system. The true value of this infrastructure lies not in data collection alone but in the ability to analyse, connect and transform that data into intelligence.

Timely, actionable Intelligence – in one single search

Project INSIGHT is a unique, secure platform that transforms INTERPOL’s vast data holdings into actionable intelligence for both INTERPOL and its member countries.

Now active, INSIGHT is the only platform that enables users to effectively search fragmented law enforcement data across multiple sources – all in one single search. The sources include INTERPOL’s databases, millions of messages, attachments and police reports, as well as published Notices and Diffusions.

Leveraging artificial intelligence, such as natural language processing, INSIGHT enables users to extract patterns, link entities and surface hidden intelligence that would otherwise remain buried. The platform gives trained users broader access to crime data than any other INTERPOL system.

At all times, INSIGHT operates in strict compliance with INTERPOL’s rules, guidelines and policies on the use of data.

Tangible Benefits to Member Countries

This initiative offers a range of benefits to member countries including facilitating information sharing for analytical purposes, cross-border case collaboration, and secure access to modern technology and data analysis.

A pilot phase involving three or four countries in South America will help make recommendations for a roll-out to more countries. As part of this pilot, INTERPOL will provide equipment, training and user support.
