BALI, Indonesia – INTERPOL has concluded cooperation agreements with several organizations to enhance the global response to transnational crime.
The agreements, approved at the 85th INTERPOL General Assembly held this week in Bali, formalized the collaboration between INTERPOL and partner organizations in security-related fields to encourage information exchange and joint activities.
INTERPOL entered into one such agreement with the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in relation to GCCPOL, their law enforcement arm. GCCPOL serves as a law enforcement hub for the six countries of the GCC (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE), offering crime and security analysis, criminal databases, a police communications centre and operational coordination.
Through the agreement, INTERPOL and GCCPOL will develop a framework for cooperation and to coordinate their respective projects in the region to avoid duplication. The two organizations will also organize joint training courses and workshops.
A key aspect of the agreement will see INTERPOL and GCCPOL develop interoperability between their respective police communications systems in order to exchange critical crime-related information.
INTERPOL also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Anti-Corruption Academy in Austria to encourage joint projects, meetings and other activities focusing on anti-corruption.
To boost the longstanding cooperation between INTERPOL and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) a supplemental agreement on information exchange, training and joint activities against all forms of transnational crime was also approved by the General Assembly.
An additional agreement was concluded with the World Customs Organization to enhance ongoing collaboration.
