LYON, France – In honour of the thousands of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, INTERPOL is calling on people around the world to join the International Day of Remembrance.
First held in 2019, the International Day of Remembrance for Fallen Officers is held on 7 March, and provides an opportunity to recognize the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the globe.
In honour of the men and women who have lost their lives, flags at INTERPOL duty stations around the world will be flown at half-mast.
“With more than 40 years of policing experience, I have learned there is no greater weight to bear than the loss of a friend, a colleague or a family member,” said INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock.
“In my conversations with Chiefs of Police around the world this past year, it has been saddening to hear how many law enforcement officers have lost their lives to COVID-19.
“Every day, police officers around the globe are called upon to protect their communities, but too many are killed in the line of duty. It is imperative that their service and sacrifice are never taken for granted,” concluded Secretary General Stock.
