Discussions centred on the theme of ‘Challenges for police facing contemporary criminal violence’.
The 81st session of the INTERPOL General Assembly opened on 5 November 2012 with a ministerial meeting that brought together justice, security and home affairs ministers from nearly 100 countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ministers adopted a Declaration calling on all member countries to develop a common approach to effectively respond to the new challenges facing police worldwide.
Discussions covered contemporary forms of violence such as extremism and terrorism, urban violence, human trafficking and smuggling.
The Ministerial meeting, the largest-ever of its kind, marked the beginning of the four-day INTERPOL General Assembly.
The declaration encourages key decision-makers to take the necessary steps to facilitate national and collective action against the increasing prevalence of modern day criminal violence.
The meeting brought together nearly 100 ministers from around the world to discuss issues of contemporary violence.
