Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda

Law enforcement in Antigua and Barbuda is carried out primarily by the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda (RPFAB) which is made up of more than 600 staff members.

The RPFAB is headed by a Police Commissioner who is assisted by more than 30 senior officers and around 25 inspectors.

In the absence of a navy or air force, a 220-strong Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force assists the RPFAB in maintaining public order in cases of emergency.   The Defence Force includes the Coast Guard and reports directly to the Minister of National Security.

Mission of the RPFAB:

  • Maintain law and order;
  • Preserve the peace;
  • Protect life and property;
  • Prevent, detect and investigate crime;
  • Apprehend offenders and enforce the law.

The RPFAB is made up of police departments which include:

  • Criminal Investigations Department;
  • Homicide;
  • Sexual Offence Unit;
  • Special Branch;
  • Drug Squad;
  • Special Services Unit;
  • Financial Investigations Unit;
  • Crime Scene Investigation;
  • Canine Unit;
  • IT and Telecommunications;
  • Transport;
  • Traffic Control;
  • Quick Response Team;
  • Police Band.


The National Central Bureau (NCB) for Antigua and Barbuda is part of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).  It is run by a Head of NCB who is assisted by two other officers.

Priorities include:

  • Fugitive investigations;
  • Fighting trafficking in human beings;
  • Fighting the use of stolen travel documents to perpetrate crime.
