INTERPOL Chief recognizes contribution of CIS countries in combating terrorism

BAKU, Azerbaijan – With six Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries amongst the top 15 contributors of foreign terrorist fighter information to INTERPOL, Secretary General Jürgen Stock recognized their efforts in combating terrorism.

Secretary General Stock said that cooperation the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center was a key factor in ensuring global security.
The CIS countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Addressing the Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs meeting in Azerbaijan, the INTERPOL Chief said the world needed to work collectively across national borders in facing complex transnational crime threats.

Populating and expanding access to INTERPOL’s databases is an important part of developing an early global warning system, Mr Stock told the Ministers.

Cooperation with regional organizations such as the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center, with which INTERPOL’s counter-terrorism unit regularly engages, is also a key factor in enhancing security worldwide said the INTERPOL Chief.

The CIS countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
