INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock told the Data Protection Officers attending the meeting that data protection is key to INTERPOL’s mission and activities, its good governance and accountability.

Bringing together Data Protection Officers from National Central Bureaus (NCBs) around the world, the three-day (22 – 24 October) meeting addressed issues such as privacy by design and legislative changes.

Addressing the delegates, Secretary General Jürgen Stock said data protection is key to INTERPOL’s mission and activities, its good governance and accountability.

Mr Stock also highlighted the need for information to be shared with mutual trust, compliance, integrity, and with respect for the privacy of the individual.

Since the adoption of its first set of Rules of Processing of Police Information in 1983, INTERPOL has continuously updated its procedures over the years, and today is the only international organization with a global network of data protection officers.
