LYON, France – Police managers and experts in law enforcement research have gathered at INTERPOL’s General Secretariat headquarters to identify ways in which academic and technical studies can boost policing initiatives on the ground.
The first INTERPOL Working Group Meeting on Police Research (29-30 June) brought together 16 representatives from 10 countries from each INTERPOL region, Europol and the European Police College CEPOL to exchange information on best practices in a range of policing areas.
Key areas for discussion included research in the fields of international police science and law enforcement technology, including the development and evaluation of tools such as software for information analysis and retrieval, and adapting new technologies for police ends.
Strategic planning and the potential increased involvement of INTERPOL in police research – such as the creation of a virtual network of police researchers to assist in information exchange – were also high on the agenda.
