INTERPOL Willemstad

INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Willemstad is headed by Curaçao’s Chief Inspector of Police who is assisted by the Deputy Head of NCB for day-to-day legal and policy activities. In addition to senior management, INTERPOL Curaçao is staffed by highly-trained specialized officers, criminal analysts, researchers, technical specialists and administrative personnel.

Under the command of the Minister of Justice and judicial supervision of the Attorney General, INTERPOL Curaçao is an independent government unit within the Ministry of Justice. It is the exclusive point of contact between domestic law enforcement agencies, including the National Police Force, and INTERPOL's international law enforcement community.

INTERPOL Willemstad is the designated contact point for the INTERPOL General Secretariat, regional bureaus and other NCBs requiring assistance with investigations and the apprehension of fugitives in Curaçao. It coordinates national law enforcement action and response, ensuring that it is consistent with national interests and law, as well as with INTERPOL policies, procedures, and regulations. 

NCB  objectives

  • Operate as the national point of contact for domestic law enforcement agencies requiring help in overseas investigations;
  • Facilitate cross-border police cooperation to prevent and fight international crime;
  • Coordinate and facilitate the location and apprehension of international fugitives;
  • Assist law enforcement agencies in all INTERPOL member countries to carry out investigations involving Curaçao.

  • Financial and high-tech crime;
  • Corruption.

Staff duties

  • Perform identity checks for suspects under investigation;
  • Gather and share intelligence with a view to tracing and locating suspects, fugitives and wanted persons;
  • Assist in the location and identification of missing persons;
  • Assist in the seizure of stolen or smuggled property;
  • Coordinate the extradition or deportation of fugitives;
  • Obtain criminal records on individuals under international investigation;
  • Verify the identity and obtain criminal records of suspects arrested in Curaçao;
  • Relay intelligence and information to law enforcement agencies, and judicial authorities;
  • Advise the Curaçao Minister of Justice on INTERPOL issues and other international related crime aspects.
