Laos

Founded in 1961, the Laos Police Force is part of the Ministry of Public Security.  Its mission is to ensure nationwide security, social order and the prevention, detection and investigation of crime.

Structure:

  • Criminal Investigation Police;
  • Economic Crime Police;
  • Environmental Crime Police;
  • Human Trafficking Police;
  • Fire Brigade;
  • Forensic Police;
  • INTERPOL National Central Bureau for Laos;
  • National Police Cabinet;
  • Police Dog Service;
  • Police Personnel Office;
  • Prevention and Counter Narcotic Police;
  • Traffic Police.

Because Laos shares its borders with many countries, including China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar, the Laos Police Force enjoys a close working relationship with partner law enforcement forces in its neighboring countries, which collectively work together in boosting national and regional security.   INTERPOL’s secure global police network is an important tool in achieving this.

Laos’ National Police Academy is based in Ban Donnoun, just east of the Capital Vientiane.
