INTERPOL President meets with Moldovan Prime Minister and senior officials

CHISINAU, Moldova – INTERPOL President Hongwei Meng held high-level meetings with the Moldova’s Prime Minister and other senior officials during his first visit to the country.

A range of global security issues, from border management to cybercrime were discussed by President Meng with Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tudor Uliano.

A range of global security issues, from border management to cybercrime were discussed by President Meng with Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Tudor Uliano.

The Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior highlighted how the geographical location of Moldova has led to border related crime such as arms trafficking and people smuggling.

They also pointed to the increasing challenges posed by cybercrime, with legislation under review to better support investigations, and also welcomed INTERPOL’s support.

“Moldova’s geographical situation means it faces a range of crime issues, but this also means it has strategic importance for regional and global safety. INTERPOL will continue to work closely with Moldova and other countries as part of its indispensable role in global security,” said President Meng.

“Their strong support and pro-active participation in INTERPOL’s activities is even more encouraging given Moldova’s size and population,” added President Meng who also met with staff at the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Chisinau.

With the average age of officers serving in NCB Chisinau just 25, President Meng said their energy would be a strong contributory factor in enhancing global security.

The President also visited the Moldovan Police training academy where he encouraged the new recruits to embrace their future responsibilities to protect Moldovan citizens at home and abroad.
