Unveiled during the 2016 gathering by Jean-Luc Vez, WEF's Head of Public Security Policy and Security Affairs, the recommendations of the WEF’s Cybercrime Project set the scene for a unified approach between law enforcement and private industry partners for better prevention, detection and mitigation of cybercrime.

In support of this initiative, INTERPOL acts as a global hub for cybercrime related data and intelligence from its member countries and partners in the private sector, as well as providing training on best practices for combating cyber and technology-enabled crimes.

The WEF recommendations call for the increased exchange of information between law enforcement and the private sector, greater awareness and enforcement of legislation against cybercrime, and joint capacity building activities.

"Collaboration with private sector and academia - leveraging their technology, expertise and information - is at the heart of INTERPOL's strategy to combat cybercrime,” said Noboru Nakatani, Executive Director of the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI).

“INTERPOL champions this approach and appreciates the leadership of the WEF in this initiative,” added Mr Nakatani.

In this regard, the WEF initiative recognizes the IGCI's Cyber Fusion Centre as an effective global information sharing platform against cybercrime.

Reaffirming the Organization’s commitment to the initiative, INTERPOL and the WEF will co-host a workshop dedicated to the implementation of the initiative's recommendations at the IGCI in Singapore.
