INTERPOL Chief discusses security issues with Chilean Minister of Interior

SANTIAGO, Chile – The head of INTERPOL, Secretary General Jürgen Stock has met with Chile’s Minister of the Interior to discuss a range of transnational crime and security issues.

The meeting between Minister Andrés Chadwick and Mr Stock in Santiago focused on regional and global threats including cybercrime and drug trafficking.

With Chile amongst the highest contributors to INTERPOL’s global databases, Secretary General Stock commended their extremely active role in international law enforcement collaboration.

During his first official mission to Chile, Mr Stock met with Héctor Espinosa Valenzuela, the Director General of the Chilean National Police (Policía de Investigaciones – PDI) which is responsible for the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Santiago.

In a tour of the NCB Secretary General Stock was briefed on current activities, including their strong involvement in INTERPOL’s Project Fortaleza which addresses organized crime across Latin America and their support for the Organization’s Specialized Operational Network against People Smuggling.

Chile will host the 2019 INTERPOL General Assembly, the Organization’s supreme governing body which meets once a year and takes all the major decisions affecting general policy, resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programmes of activities.
