Bahrain Interior Minister and INTERPOL Chief discuss regional security issues

MANAMA, Bahrain – INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock has met with the Minister of Interior of Bahrain, Shaikh Rashed Bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, to enhance international cooperation against transnational crime and terrorism.

Talks between Minister Al Khalifa and Secretary General Stock focused on key security threats facing the region, including cybercrime, financial crimes and terrorism, and INTERPOL’s support to national authorities in tackling these crimes.

The INTERPOL Chief highlighted the strong participation of Bahrain in INTERPOL’s counter-terrorism activities in the region. The country recently hosted a specialized training course on countering the terrorist use of social media, and an operational working group meeting on foreign terrorist fighters.

“As foreign terrorist fighters leave the battlefields and return to their countries of origin, bringing with them the skills and knowledge to carry out further attacks, all countries and regions must be engaged in countering this evolving threat.

“The active support of countries such as Bahrain is essential to the success of global counter-terrorism efforts,” said Mr Stock.

The Secretary General also met with Chief of Public Security, Tariq Hasan Al Hasan, and Colonel Bassam Mohammed Al -Miraj, Head of the General Directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, which later this month will host the 19th INTERPOL Programme on Anti-Corruption, Financial Crimes and Asset Recovery.

During his visit, Secretary General Stock also toured the Office of Public Prosecution.
