Romanian fugitive on INTERPOL wanted list arrested in America

The former Director General of the Romanian National Railway Company who was subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice, or international wanted persons notice, has been arrested in the United States.

Mihai Necolaiciuc, who is accused of corruption and abuse of power causing losses of approximately EUR 50 million, was taken into custody by officers from the US Marshals Service and US Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (BICE) in Florida on Wednesday 17 June.

The 57-year-old’s arrest was made as a result of co-operation between the US and Romanian authorities and officers at INTERPOL’s Fugitive Investigative Support unit at its General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon, France.
