2nd Eurasian Working Group on Cybercrime for Heads of Units

28 - 30 May 2014, Istanbul, Turkey

This event brought together the heads of cybercrime units from Europe, Asia and Oceania to discuss the latest cybercrime trends, share best practices in investigations and digital forensics, and discuss ways to enhance capacity building and operational support. It also provided an excellent platform for the creation of a cyberthreat task force. This would comprise law enforcement, public and private sectors and academia where relevant, in a joint response to emerging cybercrime phenomena.

This meeting followed the recent success of Operation Strikeback, which targeted organized crime networks in the Philippines behind ‘sextortion’ cases around the world, and resulted in nearly 60 people being arrested. This operation was the result of a threat identified during the inaugural meeting of this Working Group, held in Singapore on 12-13 November 2013, and the work of the resulting task force facilitated by the INTERPOL Digital Crime Centre (IDCC).

The 2nd Eurasian Working Group on Cybercrime for Heads of Units was co-organized with the Turkish National Police.
