Law enforcement services in Aruba are provided by the Aruba Police Force, called ‘KPA’ from its Dutch name ‘Korps Politie Aruba’. KPA is part of the Ministry of Justice and has a strength of almost 500 sworn officers and more than 100 administrative employees for a population of just over 100,000.
KPA is under the command of a Police Commissioner who is stationed at the Police Headquarters in Santa Cruz. All activities undertaken by the Aruba Police Force are defined in the KPA annual year plan which sets the priorities for the three divisions which make up the force:
- Criminal Investigations;
- Special Tasks.
With strong emphasis on accountability, intelligence-led and customer-oriented policing, the KPA concentrates its action around the following priority areas;
- community policing;
- high impact crime;
- organized and transnational crime;
- traffic safety.
The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) for Aruba reports directly to the Police Commissioner’s Chief of Staff. Located at the police headquarters, the NCB serves as the exclusive platform for international police investigations and queries related to nationals of Aruba or crime committed in Aruba.
INTERPOL Oranjestad focusses its activities on fighting organized and transnational crime and working with all INTERPOL member countries in investigating cross-border crime.
