Legal materials
Several international conventions provide a legal frame for the protection of cultural heritage as well as for tackling transnational crime.
These legal tools can assist member countries in developing appropriate national legislation to curb this type of crime.
- United Nations Security Council Resolution 2199 (2015)
- United Nations Convention against Corruption (2003)
- United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (2000)
- International Convention for Suppression of Financing Terrorism (1999)
- UNIDROIT Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects (1995)
- Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property (1970)
In addition, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has developed a database of National Cultural Heritage Laws freely accessible on its website.
