Meng Hongwei

Meng Hongwei was elected at the 85th session of the INTERPOL General Assembly held in Bali in November 2016. Mr Meng, of Chinese nationality, served as President until October 2018.

Mr Meng has almost 40 years’ experience in criminal justice and policing, having overseen affairs related to legal institutions, narcotics control, counter-terrorism, border control, immigration and international cooperation.

Mr Meng has held several positions in the Ministry of Public Security including Director of the Patrol Police Division, Director-General of the Traffic Control Department, Assistant Minister, and Vice Minister.

He has also served as Vice Chairman of the National Narcotics Control Commission, Director of the National Counter-Terrorism Office, and Member of the Chinese Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Regional Counter-Terrorism Structure. He also served as Director-General of the China Coast Guard, and Head of the INTERPOL National Central Bureau of China.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in law.
