Jesús Espigares Mira
Born in 1946, Jesús Espigares Mira joined the Spanish National Police in 1968, after graduating from Law School.
In 1984, he was promoted to Chief Superintendent, the highest rank in the Spanish National Police. He also held positions as Head of the Irun Police Agency, Head of the Counterterrorism Squad in Barcelona, General Secretary of the Police Headquarters in Madrid and Commissioner of Granada.
In 1996, he was appointed Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, dealing with drugs trafficking, money laundering and organized crime.
At the 1998 INTERPOL General Assembly in Cairo, he was elected member of the Organization's Executive Committee and subsequently became President in 2000.
In appreciation of his professional merit, Jesús Espigares Mira has been honoured with several national and international decorations.
