Strengthening global security through regional training to tackle organised crime and terrorism

SEMARANG, Indonesia – An INTERPOL Crime Scene and Evidence Examination course to boost South East Asia’s ability to tackle organised crime and terrorism through forensic investigation has concluded in Indonesia.

The two week Terrorist Crime Scene Evidence and Examination Course was delivered to 18 experts from nine of the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

Delivered by Royal Canadian Mounted Police experts to regional law enforcement and forensic staff, the event was organized by the General Secretariat’s Capacity Building and Training unit and hosted at the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC).

Tracing, locating, recording, seizing and examining forensic evidence such as paper, plastic, metal and DNA were high on the agenda of this two week (3 - 14 December) specialised regional capacity building event delivered to 18 experts from nine of the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.

In addition to learning about INTERPOL’s secure global data sharing mechanisms, participants took part in practical exercises enabling them to examine complex outdoor and indoor crime scenes involving suspect vehicles, people and venues, including a mock train station.

Delivered by Royal Canadian Mounted Police experts to regional law enforcement and forensic staff, the event was organized by the General Secretariat’s Capacity Building and Training unit and hosted at the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC).  

The event was opened by JCLEC Executive Director Brigadier General Nugroho S. Wibowo.

This capacity building event is part of INTERPOL’s Sunbird Project, a three-year (2017-2020) initiative to boost the counter-terrorism skills of law enforcement across the ASEAN region.
