Streamlining communication crucial to law enforcement efficiency, INTERPOL Chief

ALGIERS, Algeria – Addressing the Afripol General Assembly, INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock said building bridges between police in Africa and the rest of the world is essential.

The INTERPOL Chief said the two organizations needed to work closely together to deliver effective policing capabilities which can help frontline officers across the region.

Avoiding duplication of effort was also highlighted by Mr Stock, emphasizing how INTERPOL’s global network and support provided added value to each country through the National Central Bureaus (NCBs).

“Security is the foundation for peace and prosperity,” said Secretary General Stock.

“This is why INTERPOL will continue to work closely with Afripol and all involved member countries to identify the challenges faced by Africa and respond to them collectively,” added the INTERPOL Chief.

A cooperation agreement with the African Union (AU) providing a framework for information sharing with Afripol will be presented to INTERPOL’s General Assembly in November.

Mr Stock said the accord would build on the support already provided by INTERPOL’s four African Regional Bureaus and the appointment of the Special Representative to the AU in 2017.
