INTERPOL member countries endorse expansion of I-Checkit to the maritime sector

BALI, Indonesia – INTERPOL’s General Assembly has endorsed the expansion of its I-Checkit programme to the maritime industry as part of efforts to enhance border security and passenger screening.
 
Its 190 member countries approved a resolution on rolling out the I-Checkit passenger screening system to the maritime sector via its first partner in this industry, Carnival Corporation, following a three-month (August – October) pilot phase on four of its Princess Cruises ships.
 
The trial included 34,000 passenger travel documents which were successfully checked against INTERPOL’s Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) database to demonstrate the system’s ability to further strengthen security for the global cruise industry.
 
Carnival Corporation will now integrate I-Checkit into its global passenger check-in process, enabling the secure screening of travel documents against the SLTD database which contains more than 69 million records from 175 countries.
 
The expanded partnership agreement will look to undertake a phased rollout of the I-Checkit system across Carnival Corporation’s 10 cruise lines in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

The I-Checkit system is in full compliance with INTERPOL’s Rules on the Processing of Data. Since 2015, it has been fully operational with AirAsia in the airline sector.
