The Lesotho Mounted Police Service 

The Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Public Safety.


  • Prevent, detect and investigate crime;
  • Maintain law and order;
  • Apprehend and prosecute offenders;
  • Protect people and property;
  • Provide emergency services.

Law enforcement services in Lesotho are divided into three geographic regions, with police in each region working under the command of an Assistant Commissioner who in turn answers to the National Commissioner of Police.

Located at the Maseru Police headquarters, the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) for Lesotho operates under the command of an Assistant Commissioner of Police who delegates the day-to-day running of the NCB to a Commanding Officer.
