Activities

INTERPOL carries out a variety of activities to support our member countries in the fight against cybercrime. We offer support to cybercrime investigations, work to develop innovative new technologies, assist countries in exploiting digital evidence, conduct training sessions and assist countries in reviewing their cyberfighting capacities.

Regional working groups bring together senior experts from national cybercrime units to assess the latest regional trends and current threats, and formulate action plans and transnational operations.

INTERPOL Global Cybercrime Expert Group

This cross-sector group brings together experts from different cyber-related fields to provide advice on including cyberstrategy, research, training, forensics and operations.

The exploitation of digital forensics is becoming essential to police investigations, even those involving crimes where the role of technology may not be immediately evident, like robberies, drug trafficking, maritime piracy or terrorism.

The ability to extract evidence from computers, mobile phones and other devices is critical to building strong cases against suspects.

INTERPOL’s Digital Forensics Laboratory assists countries in enhancing their ability to detect and use digital evidence as part of their everyday police work. Working with experts from the public, private and academic communities, it offers support including:

  • Analysis of malware and other crimeware used submitted by member countries or private partners;
  • Assistance in examining digital devices to ensure a proper forensic examination;
  • Testing digital forensic tools developed by the private sector, academia and national research labs;
  • Training in the latest digital forensic tools and techniques;
  • Digital forensic experts can be sent at the request of a member country to provide on-site assistance during investigations.
