ICT Law Projects
INTERPOL is participating in several research projects into the use of new technologies and data protection, funded by the European Union. These projects aim to strengthen security while minimizing the impact on fundamental rights, such as privacy.
Speaker Identification Integrated Project
The SIIP project is working to develop new technology to help the law enforcement community identify the voices of unknown individuals, taking into consideration current privacy and data protection laws.
Managing Alternatives for Privacy, Property and Internet Governance
The Mapping project serves as a forum for expert discussions on the economic, social, legal and ethical aspects of ongoing developments on the Internet, with a focus on governance, human rights (including privacy and data protection) and intellectual property.
Economic Impacts of Cybercrime
The e-Crime project focuses on legal developments and the effects of cybercrime, assessing existing counter-measures, measuring the economic impact of cybercrime and developing concrete responses.
European Informatics Data Exchange Framework for Courts and Evidence
The Evidence Project will help develop a common legal framework for the systematic and uniform application of new technologies in the collection, use and exchange of evidence
Scalable Measure for Automated Recognition Technologies
We are seeing an exponential development of smart surveillance technology, and a push by legislators to provide effective legal frameworks. The Smart Project supports this by providing a draft model law that clearly reflects stakeholders’ needs and ensures a balance with citizens’ rights.
Rules, Expectations and Security through Privacy-Enhanced Convenient Technologies
This builds on the Smart Project and extends the scope of legal research to a number of areas such as CCTV systems, social network monitoring and automated systems tracking financial movements.
These projects have received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological developments and demonstration.
