With INTERPOL providing security support for the Football World Cup, the South African officers – pictured with INTERPOL Executive Director of Police Services Jean-Michel Louboutin (centre) during their two-day visit in Lyon, France – have been liaising with INTERPOL’s Major Events Support Unit, which assists member countries in preparing and co-ordinating security arrangements for major international events, notably by deploying INTERPOL Major Events Support Teams (IMESTs). The officers are also being briefed on INTERPOL’s front-line police tools and updated on assistance available from the General Secretariat, including access to its global databases for fingerprints and DNA, INTERPOL’s analytical unit and support from specialised crime areas such as drugs and human trafficking.
