| Theft of a huge collection of icons in Lithuania |

On 10 October 2008, thieves broke into the private house of a collector in Vilnius and stole 211 icons, most of them dating from the 18th to the 20th Century. The value of the whole collection is estimated at EUR 1 million.
The stolen icons with available photographs have been recorded in INTERPOL’s Works of Art database in order to help identify these valuable objects in the event of a seizure or a doubtful offer for sale.
