Police officers in Nepal involved in the location and arrest of a doctor accused of conducting hundreds of illegal kidney transplants in India have been praised by the INTERPOL Secretary General for their significant contribution to international law enforcement co-operation.

During a visit to Kathmandu, Secretary General Ronald K. Noble thanked the officers responsible for the swift arrest of Dr Amit Kumar following the issue of an INTERPOL Red Notice at the request of India.

“This arrest is a clear example of what can be achieved when law enforcement co-operates across borders and is at the very heart of what INTERPOL stands and works for,” said INTERPOL Secretary General Noble.

“No matter how technologically advanced the world becomes, we all still rely on human action and this is especially true in police work where the vigilance and dedication of individual law enforcement officers can have an effect on hundreds, if not thousands of citizens.

“The fast and decisive action taken by Nepal police should be recognised and I am happy to do so on behalf of the world’s police,” added Mr Noble.

Nepal ’s Inspector General of Police and Mr. Noble were pleased to announce that a Nepalese police officer would be detached to INTERPOL’s General Secretariat in Lyon, France, later this year.

The Secretary General’s mission to Nepal – his first to the country - is part of a five-country tour throughout Asia, which will also see him visit Bangladesh for the first time in addition to high level meetings in India, South Korea and Hong Kong, China where he will participate in INTERPOL’s Asian Regional Conference.
