The subject of this notice has been designated, by the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) concerning individuals, groups, undertakings and entities associated with the Taliban as subject to the following sanctions:
- ARMS EMBARGO: Prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale and transfer from their territories or by their nationals outside their territories, or using their flag vessels or aircraft, of arms and related materiel of all types, spare parts and technical advice, assistance, or training related to military activities, to designated individuals and entities.
- ASSETS FREEZE: Freeze without delay the funds and other financial assets or economic resources of designated individuals and entities, ensure that no funds, financial assets or economic resources are made available, directly or indirectly for their benefit.
- TRAVEL BAN: Prevent the entry into or transit through their territories by designated individuals.

Mohammad Hassan Akhund was listed on 25 January 2001 concurrently as the First Deputy of the Council of Ministers, Foreign Minister and Governor of Kandahar of the Taliban regime so falling within the provisions of resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1333 (2000) of the United Nations Security Council regarding acts and activities of the Taliban authorities.
Mohammad Hassan Akhund is a close associate and Political Advisor of Mohammed Omar (TI.O.4.01).
Mohammad Hassan Akhund remained an active leader of the Taliban as at mid-2009. He was a member of the Taliban Supreme Council as at December 2009. He was one of the most effective Taliban commanders as at early 2010.
