"Securing a Safer Community"
Law enforcement services in Papua New Guinea are provided by the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC). Headed by a Commissioner who commands a force of 5,000 men and women, RPNGC is part of the Government’s Law and Justice Sector.
Law and Justice Sector responsibilities:
- Law and order;
- National judicial staff services;
- Ombudsman commission;
- Correctional services;
- Magisterial services.
The RPNGC is headquartered in Konedobu, a suburb of the capital city Port Moresby.
Headed by the Commissioner of Police, INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau for Papua New Guinea is part of the RPNGC Crime Directorate. It is staffed by three uniformed officers and operates 24 hours a day.
INTERPOL Konedobu is the central point of contact for all police matters involving citizens of Papua New Guinea abroad and crime with an international link committed in Papua New Guinea. On a daily basis, the NCB coordinates and transmits requests for criminal investigative and humanitarian assistance between domestic law enforcement authorities and their foreign counterparts.
INTERPOL Konedobu also ensures that all RPNGC forces have easy access to information contained in INTERPOL's wealth of criminal databases.
