Media invitation for Istanbul 7th Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy

Challenges and innovative responses to combating counterfeiting and piracy will be the central theme of the 7th Global Congress on Combating Counterfeiting and Piracy in Istanbul, Turkey, 24-26 April 2013.

A leading forum for building cooperation to enhance public awareness and concerted action to address the ever-increasing scourge of counterfeiting and piracy, the Global Congress is organized by the World Customs Organization (WCO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and INTERPOL, in partnership with the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the International Chamber of Commerce / Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (ICC/BASCAP).

Turkish Customs, supported by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), is hosting the Global Congress at the Lutfi Kirdar Convention Center in Istanbul.

The event brings together government ministers and policy-makers, business leaders and senior law enforcement officials, judges and lawyers, stakeholders from intergovernmental organizations and nongovernmental organizations, as well as consumer groups and academics.

Following the opening ceremony on 24 April, during which the Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble and other key speakers will address participants, a press conference will be held from 11:15 to 11:45.

In addition to INTERPOL Secretary General Noble, the press conference will also involve Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Ömer Çelik, WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya, WIPO Director General Francis Gurry, INTA President Toe Su Aung, ICC/BASCAP Co-Chair Shelley Duggan, and ICC Turkey President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.
