Law enforcement in Hungary
Law enforcement services in Hungary are provided by two principal agencies:
- National Police, which includes the border police (Ministry of Interior);
- National Tax and Customs Office (Ministry of National Economy).
Hungary’s national police headquarters are located in the 13th District of the capital, in a glass building called “the Police Palace”. Hungary does not have a Gendarmerie nor are there municipal police forces.
The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) for Hungary is part of Hungary’s International Police Co-operation Centre (NEBEK). NEBEK is one of the biggest units of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and has nationwide jurisdiction. It receives and processes criminal investigation requests from abroad and is able to take urgent operational action if required.
INTERPOL Budapest is staffed by almost 20 case officers and a liaison officer from the Hungarian Customs. NCB activities are focussed around the following crime fields:
- Stolen motor vehicles;
- Stolen works of art;
- Financial crime;
- Drug related crimes;
- Customs cases.
Case officers are able to work in English, French, Spanish and German, but Italian, Romanian and Russian are also spoken.
INTERPOL organiza en Polonia un curso para la realización de investigaciones sobre incidentes radiactivos y nucleares con objeto de promover un plan de acción común
