Founded in 1961, the Laos Police Force is part of the Ministry of Public Security. Its mission is to ensure nationwide security, social order and the prevention, detection and investigation of crime.

Because Laos shares its borders with many countries, including China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar, the Laos Police Force enjoys a close working relationship with partner law enforcement forces in its neighboring countries, which collectively work together in boosting national and regional security. INTERPOL’s secure global police network is an important tool in achieving this.
Laos’ National Police Academy is based in Ban Donnoun, just east of the Capital Vientiane.
The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) is part of the Laos national police force.

INTERPOL Vientiane serves as an advisory body for the Chief of the Laos Police, acting as a source of intelligence to strengthen national security and stability. It works with fellow INTERPOL member countries in the prevention and investigation of transnational organized crime, serving as the essential platform for all domestic investigations requiring international outreach. The NCB is currently staffed by more than 20 officers.
