The Lesotho Mounted Police Service 

In terms of national policing, Lesotho is divided into three regions and each region is headed and administered by an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

As part of Lesotho’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Public Safety, the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) has the following mandate:

  • Prevention and detection of crime;
  • Maintenance of law and order;
  • Apprehension and prosecution of offenders;
  • Protection of life and property;
  • Administration of police services;
  • Management of information, communication and technology;
  • Provision of emergency services.

The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) for Lesotho is located at the Police headquarters in the capital city, Maseru.  It is headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police who is also the Head of the Crime Investigation Service which houses the NCB.
