Operation Atlantique

Atlantique is an inter-agency and cross-border operation to combat counterfeiting and all types of illicit trade across Western Africa.

Led by INTERPOL, interventions in 2011 resulted in 16 arrests and the seizure of fake products worth more than USD 1.5 million. Recovered products included soup cubes, computer supplies, African fabrics, plastic packaging used for food and water, cigarettes and CDs. Around 100 police, customs and illicit trade specialists took part in the operation.

Dates: April to June 2011.
Participating countries: (five in total) Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo.
