Media invitation for the 21st INTERPOL Asian Regional Conference

LYON, France – Senior law enforcement officials from Asia, the South Pacific and the Middle East will gather in Amman, Jordan, from 17-19 September 2012 for the 21st INTERPOL Asian Regional Conference.

With the theme of the conference entitled “Innovative Action and Law Enforcement Cooperation in Asia for a Safer World,” the conference will focus on a regional police response to crime threats as well as  building law enforcement capacity and that of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureaus in the region.

Specific issues under consideration will include emerging threats such as cybercrime, maritime piracy and armed robbery against ships, trafficking in illicit goods, terrorism, environmental crime, human trafficking and people smuggling, pharmaceutical crime and police training.

The opening ceremony and speeches by Jordan’s Director General of Public Security, Hussein Hazza Al-Majali, other senior Jordanian officials and INTERPOL President Khoo Boon Hui will be open to accredited media at 10h00 a.m. on Monday 17 September. A press conference with INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble, INTERPOL President Khoo Boon Hui and senior Jordanian officials will be held at 11h00 a.m. following the opening ceremony.

While the remainder of the conference will be closed to the media, interviews and press briefings on law enforcement topics will be arranged and a press release issued at the beginning and end of proceedings.

Journalists wishing to cover the conference are advised to apply immediately for accreditation by completing and submitting the attached accreditation form (including a photograph in jpeg format) no later than 10 September 2012 to Capt. Qais,  qaismsn@hotmail.com.

Journalists must take care of their own visa arrangements where applicable, and bring their press cards and official identity documents when they arrive at the conference desk for accreditation.
