African Conference on Pharmaceutical Crime

10-12 December 2013, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

With participation from some 20 African countries, this event brought together representatives of law enforcement agencies, drug regulatory authorities, international organizations and private-sector stakeholders. The conference provided a platform for participants to:

  • Share experiences, methodologies and approaches to fighting pharmaceutical crime;
  • Improve international networking and communication among enforcement authorities of the participating countries;
  • Set the basis for establishing a formal information exchange mechanism based on the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) approach among participating countries.

The Conference also saw the launch of the Declaration of Addis Ababa which will reinforce the commitment of countries in the region to develop effective cross-sector strategies to combat pharmaceutical crimes.

Organized by INTERPOL, the event was supported by the International Institute of Research against Counterfeit Medicines (IRACM).
