INTERPOL offers continued support after body of missing Australian backpacker found in Croatia

LYON, France – INTERPOL today underlined its commitment to assisting Croatian and Australian investigators following DNA confirmation that the body of a young woman found off the Dubrovnik coast was that of missing Australian backpacker, Britt Lapthorne.

Staff at the 24-hour Command and Co-ordination Centre at the General Secretariat in Lyon remain in constant contact with the INTERPOL National Central Bureaus (NCBs) in Canberra and Zagreb to ensure any incoming information is acted upon swiftly.

All of INTERPOL’s 187 member countries have been requested to forward and respond to any information relating to the case as a matter of urgency.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Britt Lapthorne at this time,” said INTERPOL’s Executive Director of Police Services, Jean-Michel Louboutin.

“Clearly everyone involved in the search was hoping for a different outcome, and our priority now has to be in assisting the investigating Croatian authorities as they continue to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.”
