Master painting stolen in Norway

On 8 March 2009, unknown offenders broke into the church of Larvik, Norway and stole a master painting with an estimated value of between EUR 1.7 and 2.2 million.

Lucas CRANACH the Elder, “Christ Blessing the Children”, oil on wood, in a gilt wooden frame, dimensions 90 x 125 cm.

Anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the painting is asked to contact INTERPOL National Central Bureau Oslo (ref.: 852/09) and the INTERPOL General Secretariat (ref.: 2009/7751).

Norwegian police recovered stolen Cranach painting

On 11 March 2009, just three days following the theft, Norwegian police recovered the stolen painting in good condition and arrested a suspect. The investigations are ongoing.
