INTERPOL Red Notice for Bin Laden’s right hand man

By request of Egyptian police authorities, INTERPOL on Tuesday posted a Red Notice for Aiman Al Zawahry, a leader of the Al Jihad terrorist group and emerging as one of the key figures in Osama Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terrorist network. INTERPOL’s 179 member countries are thereby formally requested to try to trace him and, if successful, immediately notify the Cairo INTERPOL Bureau as well as INTERPOL’s Headquarters in Lyon, France.

Dr Zawahry, a trained physician, is considered to have masterminded several terrorist operations in Egypt. He is accused of criminal complicity and management, for the purpose of committing premeditated murders, of the storage and possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives, of destruction of property, and of document forgery. He was also in charge of recruiting and training members of his organization, of weapons financing and outside communications.

Aiman Al Zawahry was born in Giza, Egypt in 1951.
