The INTERPOL–United Nations Ministerial Meeting
Strengthening the role of police in peacekeeping operations
11-12 October 2009, Singapore |

| More than 60 Ministers attended the meeting, convened by INTERPOL and the United Nations to secure support from the international community for the role played by police peacekeepers in preserving peace worldwide. |
Conflicts can threaten regional and international stability, and countries recovering from conflict are vulnerable to organized crime. It is internationally recognized that multilateral co-operation needs to be at the core of a global strategy to build sustainable security, and that police can play a crucial role in post-conflict peacekeeping operations.
For this reason, INTERPOL, the world’s largest global police organization, is creating a partnership with the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations. By combining their strengths, the two Organizations can create a powerful partnership and a wide-reaching network that will help restore peace and security.
To launch the partnership, a ministerial meeting will be held during INTERPOL’s 2009 General Assembly in Singapore from 11 to 15 October 2009. The one-day meeting will bring together decision-makers at the highest level from the United Nations and INTERPOL member countries and other international stakeholders.
