ICPO-Interpol - General Assembly
69th Session - Rhodes - 30th October-4th November 2000

Resolution No AGN/69/RES/6

Intellectual Property Rights

BEARING in mind Resolution AGN/63/RES/13 on counterfeiting and piracy, adopted by the General Assembly at its 63rd session held in Rome in October 1994,

CONSCIOUS of the fact that the aforementioned Resolution has had a limited impact internationally and that intellectual property right violations continue to pose a major problem to legitimate business interests, negatively impacting on the scale of investments and on the economies of the countries affected,

ACKNOWLEDGING that this problem can only effectively be addressed in co-operation with the international business community by implementing a comprehensive programme not only aimed at raising awareness of the problem, but also focusing on a comprehensive strategy to actively combat this form of crime,

The ICPO-Interpol General Assembly, meeting in Rhodes, from 30th October to 4th November 2000 at its 69th session:

RECOMMENDS that Member States unequivocally undertake to:

CONFIRM their commitment to the principles outlined in the Resolution on product counterfeiting and piracy adopted in Rome in 1994;

SUPPORT the aforementioned programme and mandate the Interpol General Secretariat to combat international violations of intellectual property rights.
