Co-operation Agreement with the United Nations

CONSIDERING Resolution AGN/65/RES/14 (adopted by the General Assembly at its session in Antalya in 1996), which asked the President and the Secretary General to conclude an outline agreement with the United Nations in order to improve and strengthen co-operation between the two organizations,

CONSIDERING the agreement signed by the President in New York on 8th July 1997,

GIVEN that this agreement:

  • defines the areas of co-operation;
  • makes provision for consultation and co-operation;
  • provides for the exchange of information and documents within the limits of each organization's regulatory texts;
  • establishes the means for technical co-operation between both institutions through - inter alia - special arrangements;
  • proposes that the Secretariats of both organizations establish procedures for reciprocal representation, and even makes provision for the United Nations and Interpol to exchange personnel;
  • is in keeping with the wishes expressed by the General Assembly,

The ICPO-Interpol General Assembly, meeting in New Delhi from 15th to 21st October 1997 at its 66th session:

APPROVES the signature of the said Agreement;

TAKES NOTE that it has entered into force;

CALLS FOR specific agreements to be concluded with the United Nations specialized agencies in the pursuit of Interpol's objectives.
